Across the watershed, people are restoring habitat, building local capacity, and preparing for a changing climate. Rivershed helps connect and support these efforts, so that placed based work can inform and strengthen other efforts over time.
Through Foodlands Corridor Restoration, the Watershed Workforce, the Watershed CPR Dashboard, and policy and systems work, Rivershed supports locally led restoration, youth engagement, shared learning, and the conditions needed for lasting watershed resilience.
Restoring riparian habitat and cultural food systems through locally led, place-based work.
Using evidence from the watershed to inform policy, investment, and long-term resilience.
A healthy, resilient Fraser Watershed relies on long-term, connected work. From restoring riparian habitat and cultural food systems, to supporting youth and local workforce pathways, to sharing learning and informing better decisions, this work depends on steady, sustained support.
Donations help make this work possible across the watershed.

Happy #FoodlandsFriday!
This month we are celebrating restoration work at a new site along the sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm (Salmon River)* corridor. 🌲
Not long ago, this area was almost completely covered in invasive Himalayan blackberry. Today, thanks to the help of the Kwantlen Land Guardians, @watersheds_coalition, and youth volunteers from Rivershed’s Watershed Workforce program, it has been transformed into a space where native plants can grow and thrive.
After removing the blackberry the team planted a variety of native species to increase biodiversity and create habitat around the pond. Work will continue throughout the next couple of years to maintain and monitor this site as the news plants become established.
Big thank you to the Township of Langley and local landholders who provided access and supported the completion of this work.
Walking the Ziegler trail in Fort Langley? Keep an eye out for the site and if you can, snap a photo of the restoration site and share it with us to help document its growth!

What a weekend celebrating #BCRiversday!
This past weekend, youth came together for two days of learning, restoration and time on the water as part of Rivershed’s Watershed Workforce program.
Participants spent Saturday along the sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm (Salmon River)* Foodlands corridor, taking part in restoration activities and learning alongside people working to care for land and water.
On Sunday, we marked BC and World Rivers Day by taking to the Fraser River in Voyageur canoes. Rivers Day founder Mark Angelo was there to send the paddlers off as they headed out on the Fraser.
Youth were joined by guests working in a range of watershed careers, who shared how they got into their fields and talked about the important role healthy watersheds play in supporting communities and local economies.
From hands-on restoration and learning about fish, wildlife and water quality to exploring career possibilities, the weekend was a chance to learn by doing, make connections and experience watershed work firsthand.
A big thank you to everyone who shared their time and knowledge, to the participants for bringing their curiosity and energy to the weekend, and to our funders for making the Watershed Workforce program possible.

This #FoodlandsFriday, the team is busy as the summer field season begins to wind down. Final summer maintenance rounds are happening at established sites along the sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm (Salmon River)* corridor to help prepare them for the fall and winter seasons.
There is also something new taking shape. Restoration work is getting underway at a new site along the sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm corridor. We’ll be sharing more about that site and the work happening there soon.
A big thank you to all the collaborators and volunteers who have contributed to work along the corridor this season, including volunteers from the @riseup_phabc program.

The Watershed Workforce program is a free 2-day overnight experience for youth ages 15-20 taking place on September 26th and 27th. Participants will spend time on the sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm (Salmon River)* Foodlands corridor, where active restoration and long-term care of land and water are underway. They will also experience the Fraser River while paddling in a Voyageur canoe, spend time with experienced practitioners, gain hands-on experience, and learn about careers in watershed stewardship.
Activities include learning about amphibians with @fvconservancy, planting native species with @rivershedbc, testing water quality and identifying fish with @kerrwoodleidal, and collecting insect samples with PERCS (Perennial Ecosystem Restoration for Carbon Sequestration in Canadian Agricultural Landscapes).
Participants will also paddle a Voyageur canoe from Mission to Langley, alongside special guests working in a wide variety of watershed careers.

Restoration doesn`t end when the planting is finished.
Ongoing monitoring helps us understand how restored habitats are changing over time and how wildlife is responding. Recently, the Rivershed team has been collecting fish data using minnow traps at the sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm (Salmon River)* Foodlands Corridor, and the results are encouraging.
Recent monitoring recorded Coho Salmon, Northern Pikeminnow, and more than 100 Three-spined Stickleback in a single trap.
The site is supporting more than fish. A black bear was spotted nearby, and a North American Beaver has been busy reshaping one of the excavated ponds by building a dam that has created deeper water, providing valuable refuge for fish. It`s exciting to see natural processes taking hold in this largely urban watershed. We`re also pleased to see the bank stabilization work continuing to perform well.
Thank you to @kerrwoodleidal, the Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance, and our Watershed Workforce #volunteers for sharing their expertise and helping make this monitoring work possible.
