Xatśūll to Williams Creek Sponsored Rafting Trip Details

Xatśūll to Williams Creek 1-day raft trip

Thursday, Aug 1st  – Approx. 4.5 hours.

Travel though the territory of Xatśūll First Nation, the northernmost Secwépemc (Shuswap) community. Occupied for at least 5,000 years, this section of the Fraser was a small part of the vast traditional territory of the Secwépemc Nation.

Downriver, the vegetation is a mix of sage and bunch grass; sidehills are forested. The river narrows significantly, forming rapids and the ranchlands above are hidden from view. We travel under Rudy Johnson Bridge, an impressive example of a “do it yourself” project, and stop for lunch at Russian Island for a healthy and delicious lunch.

What to expect: The trip is a power rafting trip, the rafts are large, stable and comfortable. The rapids splash, so you may get wet. The trip is suitable for ages 8 to 80 but it can be a long day for some.

What to Bring: Lifejackets and lunch are provided on the trip, and the Williams Lake Community Dinner is included afterwards. Wear shorts or pants, a t-shirt and a pair of shoes that can get wet. Avoid heavy cotton if possible, and wear lightweight, quick drying clothing instead. For footwear, old running shoes or sport sandals work well, please avoid flip flops or sandals without a heel strap. Bring a small backpack with a warm layer of clothes, drinking bottle, sunscreen and a brimmed hat. In addition, you should bring a change of clothes that you keep in your vehicle for after the trip.

Logistics: Meet your rafting group at 9:00am on Thursday, August 1st, at the Xatśūll Heritage Village at 3405 Mountain House Road, Williams Lake/Soda Creek. After check-in and a welcome circle, you will receive instructions and board the raft for an enjoyable day of rafting. You land at the Williams Lake River and will be shuttled to the Scout Island Nature Centre where you are invited to take part in the FraserFEST Community Dinner (see below).
