In Memory of David Edward Campbell

It is my honour to sponsor a FraserFEST rafting trip from Lytton to Tuckkwiowhum on August 9th, 2019 in support of the Rivershed Society of BC. It is a fitting gesture in memory of my brother, David Edward Campbell, who lived near fresh water all of his life. He had a great love of the outdoors and animals, and he always showed respect for both.

David was born in Kamloops and spent his childhood swimming in the Thompson River and fishing with our parents on countless lakes in the area in the 1940s. The mighty Fraser River also had a special place in his heart, along with one of his favourite fishing spots. On our maternal side, we have Indigenous ancestry in the Fraser Canyon where our Nlaka’pamux Great-Grandmother was born in Spuzzum in 1856. Our Grandmother was born in Yale and left us her childhood stories of growing up on the Fraser River in the 1880s. David knew every mile of the road trip through the Fraser Canyon like the back of his hand.

He raised his family in Langley, and was an avid fly fisherman, learning to tie his own flies and outfitting his two sons and grandchildren with rods and tackle boxes. Summers were spent with his wife, Carol, and family, camping and fishing in the province. David was an extraordinary man in so many ways and is dearly missed by family and friends. Raising an awareness of the Rivershed Society of BC would have really pleased him.
