The Rivershed Society of BC is turning 20!
Come celebrate two decades of achievements with us by attending our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, June 25 at 4:00 pm. Our AGM is taking place on the mighty Fraser River aboard the authentic 100-passenger MV Native Paddlewheeler, which will be docked at the New Westminster Quay during the AGM. The event will feature two alumnae from our Sustainable Living Leadership Program—Mary Forbes, Executive Director of Williams Lake’s Potato House, and Natalya Melnychuk, PhD candidate and co-chair of the Fraser Basin Council Youth Committee—along with fun activities, birthday cake and a sparkling wine toast. Current and former Board Members, SLLP alumni, volunteers and RSBC supporters over the past twenty years are invited to join us!
Mary Forbes, Executive Director of the Potato House, Williams Lake, will share how her experience as a Sustainable Living Leadership Program (SLLP) participant began a new journey for her and her community.
Back in 2010, Mary Forbes joined the SLLP with the determination to revitalize her community’s beloved Potato House. And that is exactly what she did. Today, Mary heads up Dandelion Tours and Interpretation, an organization that partners with others throughout the region to provide natural and cultural family-friendly experiences you won’t find on your Smartphone. Born-and-raised in Williams Lake, Mary draws on her extensive knowledge and familiarity with the area to provide an enriching educational and cultural experience, connecting people in a brand new way to the places and people of this land.
Currently a PhD Candidate with the Water Policy and Governance Group at the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario), Natalya’s research examines issues of legitimacy in the realm of collaborative water governance. Her participation in the 2014 SLLP led her to develop a community booklet – Chase by Choice – celebrating the role models in Natalya’s rural hometown who have chosen to live there and to make a positive impact. The booklet has been distributed throughout the community and is available online.
