Climate change is causing water temperatures to rise in our local rivers and coastal waters. By unplugging appliances and turning off stereos and computers when not in use, you are helping to fight global warming and keep our waters cool for salmon.

The choices we make every day can help save salmon in our local streams. Choose one or more of the the ten actions on this site then take the Rivershed Resolution.

What is a Rivershed?

A rivershed is an area of land bordered by high elevation points that drains through a system of streams, lakes, bogs and other water courses into a river. The Brunette Rivershed (pdf) is located primarily in Burnaby, but also in parts of Vancouver, Coquitlam, New Westminster and Port Moody. Over three million people now live in BC’s riversheds, roughly 200,000 in the Brunette.

About Project Rivershed Brunette

Project Rivershed began as a pilot in the Brunette Rivershed. Now in its implementation phase, the project brings together groups, organizations and concerned citizens already dedicated to helping salmon and people flourish in the region. Those participants created a vision of sustainability for the rivershed and committed to measurable actions, now showcased on our see-it, a unique information management tool developed by Visible Strategies. On this site, you will see a group counting salmon, streamkeepers pulling out invasive plants, cycling enthusiasts, ordinary citizens picking up garbage, and many more. Read about their actions and how they’re scoring here.
