About the Rivers Clinic for Environmental Leaders (RCEL)
Connecting students while paddling the mighty Fraser River
Join local student leaders for a 3-day trip down the Lower Fraser River.
June 14 – 16, 2019.
The Rivers Clinic for Environmental Leaders (RCEL) provides students from various campuses an opportunity to get inspired in an outdoor space and network with one another as they develop project plans. During this weekend program, you will:
- Share knowledge on current projects and initiatives taking place on campus;
- Discover leadership qualities through activity sessions;
- Brainstorm project ideas for shared initiatives between various campuses;
- Discuss environmental issues observed in local watersheds and communities;
- Connect with nature through meditation;
- Learn from the experiences of facilitators and guest speakers, and;
- Attend a dinner with the Kwikwetlem First Nation.
Bringing students together from different post-secondary schools is an important part of developing a stronger community. This clinic provides both the tools and space needed for cross-campus collaboration. Rivershed facilitators are present to support student groups as they plan and execute their chosen projects.
Participants will be surrounded by the beautiful coastal rainforest while paddling and camping along the banks of the river. On the route between Kwantlen and Musqueam, you will also see the effects industrial and commercial development have on the local watershed.
Several universities in the Lower Mainland have committed to sponsoring students for this program. Please email us or contact your post-secondary’s student association to inquire about the availability of sponsored seats.
