The Partnership for Water Sustainability in BC is hosting a Blue Ecology Workshop. This partnership for water sustainability will unveil a program for interweaving First Nations cultural knowledge and Western science.
Rivershed Society of BC founder, Fin Donnelly, is speaking during the workshop’s morning session “Watershed, Rivershed, What’s the Difference?”. See the agenda here.
On November 28, join them in Richmond for this important workshop on watersheds, the water balance and restorative development. Adapting to climate change requires transformational changes in how we value nature and service land.
The workshop is an outreach and professional development event, held under the umbrella of the Georgia Basin Inter-Regional Education Initiative, and designed to further the conversation in Metro Vancouver about moving towards “Sustainable Watershed Systems, through Asset Management”
Presented by the Habitat Protection Project, “This Living Salish Sea” is an important new film that explores the living treasures of the Salish Sea and the powerful undercurrents of resistance to the corporate fossil fuel agenda that threaten it.
Film will be shown at North Shore Unitarian Church, 370 Mathers Avenue, West Vancouver, BC. Doors open at 6:30, showtime 7:00. Film is 90 minutes long. Suggested donation $10.

The film maker, Sarama, will be in attendance for a Q&A. Sarama is an artist, diver and film maker who has been involved in social justice and environmental protection for most of his life and has been diving for more than four decades. The film is completely independent, made through volunteering and sharing and is non-profit and did not receive funding from any source other than donations from the community to help offset the production costs.

Delta Nature presents Salmon of the Lower Fraser River and Estuary: Current Threats and Potential Solutions with Raincoast Conservation Foundation Lower Fraser program coordinator Dave Scott Tuesday in Tsawwassen.
The Fraser watershed hosts a remarkable diversity of wild chinook, chum, coho, pink and sockeye salmon, all of which rely on habitats in the Lower Fraser. Since European colonization this area has undergone a vast transformation, and the quantity and quality of salmon habitats have been drastically reduced, however, millions of salmon continue to annually return to the watershed supporting First Nations, recreational and commercial fisheries. Today, a number of development proposals threaten to push the cumulative effects of human impacts past a tipping point.
Scott holds a Masters degree in resource management from SFU. His work with RCF has included leading the Fraser estuary juvenile salmon research program, working with local conservation organizations on salmon habitat in the Lower Fraser, and submitting evidence as an intervenor in the reviews for the Trans Mountain expansion and Roberts Bank Terminal 2 projects.
The event is set for Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Benediction Lutheran Church, 5575-6th Ave., Tsawwassen.
All ages are welcome and the event is free.
The BC Wildlife Federation’s Wetlands Education Program is presenting Map our Marshes, a free public workshop. Wetlands can filter water, mitigate flooding, and provide critical habitat to hundreds of species. Unfortunately, wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate and need our protection.
Join BCWF to learn about the different types of wetlands and how to map and protect them using GPS receivers, Google Earth, and BC’s Community Mapping Network. No previous experience is necessary.

The Fraser Basin Council (FBC) is currently recruiting for young, enthusiastic leaders from all over BC (ages 16-30) with a passion for sustainability and community well-being to join their Youth Program Advisory Committee.
Youth on the Advisory Committee will provide high-level input that will help to shape the development of the FBC Youth Program and their Building Capacity for Youth Leadership in Canada initiative, a new pilot for youth engagement that will combine dialogue, skill-building, and participation in community initiatives and on-the-ground projects. Meetings of the Advisory Committee will mostly be via teleconference or web conference; any in-person meetings will be optional and all travel expenses will be paid.

Ocean Wise Executive Chef
Long-time sustainable seafood ambassador Ned Bell is the Ocean Wise executive chef based at the Vancouver Aquarium. Bell’s cooking philosophy is globally inspired and locally created. His love of sport, travel and adventure have taken him around the world, creating memorable experiences and cooking up a storm along the way.
With the support of the Ocean Wise seafood program, Bell founded Chefs for Oceans in 2014 to raise awareness about sustainable seafood by riding his bike across Canada. Bell’s dedication to sustainable seafood has inspired many Canadian chefs to get involved in the cause – a movement that is having a meaningful impact on the way consumers think about the seafood they eat, where it comes from and how they, too, can help protect our oceans by making ocean-friendly seafood choices.
He is the author of Lure: Sustainable Seafood Recipes from the West Coast. Bell was awarded the Global Seafood Award for Advocacy at the 2017 Seaweb Seafood Summit. This recognition, paired with Bell’s diverse British Columbia upbringing, instills a passion for fresh, sustainable and locally sourced cuisine.
He has experience working in some of the country’s top kitchens and was, most recently, executive chef of Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver and YEW seafood + bar, a proud Ocean Wise partner. Bell’s diverse background includes seven seasons on Food Network Canada’s Cook Like a Chef and he has been recognized as Canada’s Chef of the Year at Food Service and Hospitality magazine’s 2014 Pinnacle Awards, Best Overall and Rising Star by Where magazine and Top 40 Foodies Under 40 by Western Living magazine in 2008.
